Anti-crime program serves as model for communities throughout the state
The Coordinated Community Anti Crime Initiative is a model for what can be accomplished when residents, businesses, government, and service providers come together to tackle underlying problems that are often the root cause of crime such as unemployment, poor housing conditions, and little or not access to social services.
With the success of the Coordinated Community Anti Crime Initiative in the University Area, the strategies behind the development and implementation of this pilot program
are now being shared with communities around the state in a series of symposiums and workshops.
The symposium, Strategies for Safe and Sustainable Communities, features an overview of the program and an introduction to explain how it can be replicated in other communities. It has been presented to hundreds of community leaders throughout Florida with symposiums held in Deerfield Beach, Orlando, Tallahassee, and Jacksonville.
As communities have embraced the symposium and local leaders seek more in-depth guidance to implement their own anti-crime programs, a series of hands-on workshops provide additional information, resources, and tools. The first workshop in this series,
Analyzing Your Community for Success, has been presented in Fort Lauderdale and Orlando, where it has been enthusiastically received.
