The UACDC’s Teen Council is a core group of 25 teen leaders unified with a goal to help address many of the issues facing the University Area and its teen residents. Each week, this dedicated group comes together to address the needs of teens in our community.
The members focus on a wide range of issues from community projects to ways to spark positive change in the lives of their peers.
By conducting eye-opening surveys of what local teens want and what they wish could be improved, the Teen Council is able to touch on some of the most sensitive issues facing our community. The areas most often identified by teens as critical for change are:
- Community revitalization
- Youth programs
- Mentoring
- Jobs
- Development opportunities
The Council then turns these issues into actions, leading by example and devoting hundreds of hours volunteering in tasks such as distributing winter holiday food and toys to families in need, attending and hosting leadership conferences, and recruiting members and program participants. The Teen Council’s committed efforts serve as a platform for emerging youth leaders in the University Area.
